AutoCAD (2D/3D)

AutoCAD is one of the prime software tool for a person who wants in the architecture, MEP or structural engineering fields as 2D or 3D CAD programmes. With these programmes one can explore design ideas, visualise concepts through photorealistic renderings and simulate how a design will perform in the real world. AutoCAD software was the first CAD programme and it is still the most widely used CAD application.

Prerequisites: –
  • Can access computer system and make use of internet to perform search over Google.


Need to Prepare?
  • Prior programming experience is not required. Basic knowledge of Civil Engineering with design concepts will be appreciated.


Tools Expected: –
  • Windows OS based PC, Smart phone with Internet, Notebook and Pen

  • Sample Codes, Software, PPTs, Reference Materials

This workshop will address about the essential core topics of AutoCAD. It will cover the basic tools that enable the student to create and edit a simple drawing, and then continue to develop those tools. Hands-on session explores to create 2D & 3D drawings.

Day 1
Session 1-  (03:30 hrs)
Getting Started with AutoCAD:
  • Autocad user interface
  • Using commands
  • Autocad workspace
  • Importing existing drawing file
  • View your work
  • Save the work.
Basic Drawing & Editing Commands:
  • Drawing lines
  • Erasing objects
  • Drawing lines with polar tracking
  • Drawing rectangles
  • Drawing circle
  • Drawing ellipse, arc, polygon, polyline, reference line, etc.
  • Undo and redo actions
  • Editing command like move, copy, rotation, mirror, trim, extend, offset.


Session 2- (02:30 hrs)
Working with Dimension and Layers:
  • Setting up unit format
  • Dimension styles
  • Creating new drawings with templates
  • What are layers
  • Layer states
  • Changing an object\’s layer.

  • Inserting blocks/external objects

Working with Outputs:
  • Export in various form
  • Printing layouts

Preparing detailed engineering Drawings:
  • Analyse to get design report
  • Convert the report into drawing format using Autocad


Creating 3D Drawings:
  • Creating elevations
  • Isometric views using 3D drawing commands
  • 3D editing commands
